What is an Accumulator?
An accumulator is a single line bet that combines three or more selections. All the selections must win for a successful bet. The odds are multiplied together to calculate the return. The odds are compounded so the potential return can increase significantly as each selection wins. However, the bet stops at nothing when there is a losing leg.
Bookmakers will accept accumulators with three or four selections to 14 or 15 or more. However, there is a maximum payout from one bet which may be exceeded after most of the legs. When a bookmaker applies an Acca Boost, the potential winnings increase. Accumulators can be win or each way, which in effect means a win bet and place bet. The stake is double the win stake unit.
Why do Bettors Like Accumulators?
The accumulator is a popular bet with bettors because it has the potential for a substantial return for a small stake. An accumulator with five selections at Evens pays 31/1 which returns 32,000 INR for a 1,000 INR bet, with the stake. In any bet, the winnings include the stake because bookmakers keep the stake for a losing bet. They make profits from the difference between stakes and returns. An Acca Boost can be an incentive to place multiple bets due to the enhanced win.
Accumulators are attractive bets for recreational customers who like an interest in a number of games and the chance to enjoy a decent return. For example, a bettor can have five horses in a horse racing accumulator bet which provides interest in several races. A football accumulator can include matches over the weekend so as each leg wins the excitement increases. The potential win increases by an advertised percentage based on the number of legs when an Acca Boost is applied.

Why do Bookmakers Like Accumulators?
Bookmakers like to accept accumulators. The betting odds are multiplied so there could be a substantial liability for a winning bet. However, the bettor can only afford one losing leg while bookmakers have the number of selections in the bet for it to fail. If a number of the early legs win, bookmakers can hedge against a winning accumulator by laying off the remaining selections in the bet. Bookmakers see an Acca Boost as an investment because of the number of additional bets.
The odds are attractive but, for example, in five Premier League football matches the results will not always go to form. Many accumulators include all but one winning leg. Favourite backers in four or more matches will usually become unstuck. There is often the banker that draws. We will explain Acca Insurance later in this article but first we will describe one of the most famous accumulators in horse racing history and the potential difference made by an Acca Boost if they existed at the time.
Frankie’s Magnificent Seven Accumulator
The Boost
If online gambling was available to bettors in the UK on Champions Day at Ascot in 1996, an Acca Boost would probably make history. Some of the current rules would come into play and you rarely see an Acca Boos on a horse racing accumulator. Frankie Dettori rode the winner of all seven races at combined odds of 25,077/1. It cost British bookies their business because of the massive hit.

A typical 7-fold Acca Boost is 15% which means extra winnings of 37,615 INR for just a 100 INR bet. It’s hypothetical scenario but illustrates the potential value in the Acca Boost. The more legs in the bet, the bigger the boost. Conversely, there are more selections that could let the bet down. However, acca bettors are happy with the trade-off which is lucrative and generous.
The Insurance
Acca Boost’s little brother is Acca Insurance. If one selection in a five-fold or more does not win, some bookmarkers return the stake in the form of a free bet. So if Frankie Dettori had six winners and one loser, anyone who backed the seven-fold would get a 100 INR refund in the form of a free bet as part of the Acca Insurance promotion:
So hardly the best compensation for missing out on almost winning the best part of 300,000 INR. The promotion is also subject to stringent general rules, including the following
- Minimum number of selections in the acca.
- Minimum odds for each selection.
- Only applies to one losing selection.
- Maximum returned stake.
- Refund comes in the form of a free bet.
In the range of Acca promotions, the Boost described below is the better option.
What is an Acca Boost?
An Acca Boost is an increase in the profit from a winning accumulator bet or the accumulator element of a system bet. An accumulator is a single line bet and a system bet is a combination bet that includes an accumulator. An Acca Boost provides extra winnings than the profit at standard odds. The boost is displayed as a percentage of the bet return and is paid in addition to the win.
The Acca Boost is displayed on the Betslip when the selections are added to the multiple bet. The feature increases the returns from winning Accas with three or more selections. The uplift depends on the number of legs and the more legs in the bet, the higher the percentage. The incremental percentages increase as more selections are added to the bet.
The promotion applies to pre-match bets and is not valid for selections from live betting. It is available on selected markets, including the match result, both teams to score and Over/Under totals goals. The bonus is often capped and there are some bet restrictions. The promotion is subject to the bookmakers general and specific Terms & Conditions
The Acca Boost adds value to a multiple bet and that appeals to sports bettors. It’s an easy way to bet for an enhanced return from a single line multiple bet. The process is simple and the percentage is applied when the bet meets the rules of the promotion. Acca bettors get better odds and a bigger potential win so it is an excellent ongoing offer for current customers with participating sportsbooks.
General Terms & Conditions
There are some variations to the Acca Boost and the name of the promotion but all the offers are subject to the following general Terms & Conditions:
- Pre-match accumulator from three selections to 15 or more.
- The boost depends on the number of selections.
- The bonus is paid in cash or free bets.
- Bets placed using free bets do not count.
- Selected League and Cup competitions.
- Sliding scale of the number of selections and the percentage boost.
- Maximum bonus.
- Cashed out bets are not eligible.
- If one leg or more does not take place the bet decreases by number of void matches.
- General Terms & Conditions apply.
The Acca Boost provides a good incentive to place multiple bets with three selections or more.

Conclusion
Accumulators with multiple legs and selections provide the potential for a substantial win for a small stake. One word of caution is that bookmakers often have a maximum win from one bet. Stakes should be set accordingly so any win is within the limits. The Acca Boost adds value to the bet and is akin to enhanced odds. The extra winnings are impressive and provide a good incentive to place speculative accas with up to 15 selections.
