Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the inaugural WTC Final between New Zealand and India that is set to take place on 18 June 2021. With the WTC Final fast approaching, both teams are in full preparation for the upcoming match and are ensuring no stone is left unturned before meeting in Southampton. While New Zealand is returning from an incredible 1-0 victory over England, India is currently practicing in an intra-squad match.
Tim Paine is Backing India to Win Final
Fans and cricketing pundits have been sharing their predictions and views on who will win the WTC Final in 2021 between New Zealand and India. Tim Paine, the Australian Test skipper, also provided insight into his prediction on Monday and selected a team that he believes will win the tournament. In a video shared on Twitter, the stumper from Australia predicted that India will comfortably win the WTC Final on 18 June 2021 should they play at their best.
The New Zealand vs India WTC Final will be played from 18 to 22 June at the famous Ageas Bowl situated in Southampton. Fans will also be pleased to know that a Reserve Day has been set, ensuring five full days of cricket action. The Reserve Day, which is scheduled for 23 June, will only be used if there is lost playing time that cannot be recovered by the normal provisions that are generally used through the tournament. Furthermore, there will not be an additional day of play added when a positive result is not achieved following five full days of cricket. In such a scenario, the match will be declared as a draw.
The winner of the upcoming final between New Zealand and India will be crowned the maiden World Test Champions. It’s worth mentioning that Team India haven’t claimed a single ICC event victory. However, this is a golden opportunity for the Men in Blue to put an end to their ICC trophy drought by defeating Kane Williamson and his New Zealand side.
Tim Paine’s Thoughts on England’s Defeat vs New Zealand
In the same Twitter video, Tim Paine shared his thoughts on the eight-wicket defeat suffered by England while playing against New Zealand in the second Test that took place at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The veteran from Australia started off by praising New Zealand for their remarkable win. However, he also mentioned that the England side that fielded against New Zealand will be a completely different squad when it comes to playing at the Ashes.
Tim Paine said that a number of key players in the England side who were on the field during the New Zealand series will play important roles during the Ashes. However, he also stated that it wasn’t the strongest team that England can produce. Paine also mentioned that when the England side arrives in Australia for the Ashes, they will come equipped with more all-rounders with the likes of Jofra Archer and Ben Strokes, strengthening the team while providing more depth as well.
He is confident that England will learn from their mistakes after playing against New Zealand and will opt-in to play a spinner going forward. He also acknowledged that the England side is a much better team when compared to the squad that played against the Kiwis. However, regardless of how strong your squad is, everyone is aware of the fact that the Ashes series is extremely difficult to win.
